Post-Surgery Recovery: Tips & Techniques

Physiotherapy

How Does Physiotherapy Help?

Physiotherapy is an essential part of both pre-surgery and post-surgery. Completing an individualised rehab program as directed by your surgeon allows for optimal recovery after your surgery.

There has even been much evidence to show that performing a 6 week bout of rehab before your surgery called “pre-hab” can dramatically increase your recovery and outcomes after your surgery.

At Healthproof physio its our goal to enhance your recovery to the best of our ability, utilising manual therapy, evidence based education and guidance, individualised exercise programs and other techniques to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.

The role of the physiotherapist after surgery is to help reduce post operative swelling, prevent scar tissue adhesion, allow for early muscle activation to prevent wasting, regain range of motion, coordination and strength to allow you to return to your work, sport and hobbies.

We work closely with your surgeon as they have specific exercise protocols for you to follow after your surgery. We tailor the rehab program to the individual using the surgeons protocol and maintain communication between all parties to keep everyone informed about your recovery.

Post-surgical rehabilitation time frames will be determined by the type of surgery you have had. Taking into account your goals and expectations our physiotherapists will advise you of an expected time frame to return to the best possible outcomes from your surgery. We have long standing relationships with many surgeons, allowing us to keep up-to-date with modern surgical techniques and procedures to ensure you have a successful recovery.

The most common surgeries we see include:
